The Story of BUSINESS

In 1982, at the age of 12, I was babysitting for a neighbor. The father had a Timex Sinclair 1000. It was one of the first affordable personal computers. While the two parents were out for dinner and a movie, I read the manual and started writing small silly programs based on if-then-else scenarios to display different things on the screen. By the time they got home, they were surprised at what their little computer could do and I was hooked.

I started my first business in 1986. The big difference between me and someone else starting a company in 1986 was computers. Hardly any small businesses in 1986 used computers. This was far from the case in my company: I used accounting software to track finances, created a computer aided design program to draw the projects, and wrote software to estimate and create proposals. I would even show up to people's homes and sit at their kitchen tables with my own computer and printer—putting together designs and estimates right in front of them. This was at a time when many of them didn't even have a computer in their house.


Since starting Miles Technologies, we have built over 1,000 business software systems.

In the 90’s, more and more people were asking me for help running their businesses. They would say things like, “I need something to track my customers, or my jobs, or my sales,” In response, I would say, “that’s not so hard, let’s write a program.”
Since starting Miles Technologies, we have built over 1,000 business software systems. Virtually every one of them has been built in web technologies. Essentially, we were building cloud-based business systems long before the term was even established. These systems were usually built to help a specific company run parts of their business better.

As a result, we’ve learned countless ways to leverage technology to enable a company to gain a competitive advantage, increase their bottom line, streamline their efficiency, and improve the quality of life of their people.

Today, Miles Technologies has over 150 employees dedicated to helping our customers accomplish more.

For all these years we have been building custom solutions and we were successful, yet we were solving only one problem at a time and didn’t handle the other aspects of their business. We would create a breakthrough function for one customer and yet all the past customers didn’t benefit since every system was unique.

After meeting as a team in 2008, we decided that we were going to set a goal that by 2023 we would be helping more than 10,000 companies through a single platform that handles more aspects of running a company than any other system in the world.

So we started designing in 2008, started developing in 2010, and launched BUSINESS in 2014. We have a dedicated team of software engineers and business visionaries releasing advancements to BUSINESS every month since the launch. With each new release our customers are able to throw away one-off non-integrated pieces of software. With BUSINESS, they now have accounting, CRM, HR, project management, and more all in one place.
